Cannabis: A Solution for Female Orgasm Difficulty (FOD)

My written public comment to the New Mexico's Medical Cannabis Board in support of adding female orgasm difficulty/disorder as a condition of treatment with medical cannabis.

To Whom It May Concern:

As part of my Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy, my thesis focused on "Using Hypnosis for Sexual Enhancement." When I began working with clients in the 1990s, the primary treatments for sexual issues were hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and behavioral therapy. Men had additional options, including penile implants. In 1998, Viagra revolutionized male sexual health as a medical solution. Women, understandably, anticipated a similar breakthrough for themselves, but that never materialized. Instead, they were left with behavioral therapy, lubrication, and marital aids (sex toys) as their main options.

Two decades later, while men now benefit from a variety of solutions—multiple forms of Viagra, GainsWave, penile injections, and vacuum erection devices—women's needs and sexual health advancements continue to lag. This is especially concerning as women, particularly during menopause, require increased stimulation and lubrication for sexual pleasure.

As cannabis has become legal in many states, research has uncovered a range of medical benefits, including its potential to assist with Female Orgasm Difficulty (FOD). For the first time, women have access to a viable medical solution for FOD through cannabis.

On a personal note, I have managed my own FOD with the use of vibrators and lubrication for decades. However, the incorporation of cannabis has significantly enhanced both the pleasure and the consistency of achieving satisfying orgasm. Many of my clients who have integrated cannabis into their sexual experiences report similar improvements, with greater pleasure and confidence in achieving orgasm.

Women deserve the same access to effective solutions for sexual pleasure as men. As of now, cannabis seems to be the only reliable option available to women. Therefore, it is imperative that cannabis be recognized and classified as a medical treatment for FOD.

Thank you for your consideration.
